What: Four honorees will receive this year’s Preserve America Presidential Awards from President George W. Bush and Mrs. Laura Bush, First Lady of the United States and Honorary Chair of Preserve America. This is the highest national award honoring historic preservation achievement.
The four award winners for 2007 are:
USS Midway Museum, San Diego, California
Natchitoches-Cane River Region Heritage Tourism, Louisiana
Downtown St. Louis Revitalization, Missouri
The History Channel Save Our History, Nationwide and New York City
Background: The 2007 Preserve America Presidential Award recipients were chosen through a national competition administered by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation in cooperation with the Executive Office of the President and in partnership with the U.S. Department of the Interior. The Presidential Awards are given annually to organizations, businesses, or government entities for exemplary accomplishments in heritage tourism and sustainable use and preservation of cultural or natural heritage assets.
