The Natchitoches Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness has moved from standby to limited active status in order to respond to events associated with Hurricane Ike. The projected landfall for Hurricane Ike is still projected to be early Saturday morning, September 13, 2008; officials have begun evacuations of Gulf coastal areas at this time.

The Natchitoches Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness has issued the following update for information purposes:

The MLK Center is open and has begun to receive evacuees.

The shelter at NSU (Health and Human Services Building, Tarleton Drive) is transitioning from setup to active mode.

Sandbags are available for distribution at the NPSO Detention Center.

Sandbags will be available at the Natchitoches Department of Public Works as of 1 PM today.

Sheriff Victor E. Jones Jr., the Director of Emergency Preparedness, will issue further notices as conditions change.
