Briarwood Entrance CNATCHITOCHES, LA- There are only a few spots available to the Caroline Dormon Foundation annual spring picnic and fundraiser to be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Briarwood Nature Preserve near Saline. 

The bloom during this time are Louisiana iris, trilliums, mayapple, star anise and sweet shrub.

View the breathe in the beauty of spring and explore Sparta Road, old Indian and buffalo trials and Bayliss Farm where pine, walnut and sassafras trees grow. “Miss Carrie’s” log house is also open for touring.

The day begins at 10 a.m. with guests enjoying morning coffee. Guided walking and cart tours are available at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A catered lunch with live music is served from 11:30Iris at Briarwood C a.m. – 1:30 p.m. inside the interpretive building.

Gift items will be for sale including books by Caroline Dormon, coloring books of Briarwood, paintings, door prizes and native plants grown at Briarwood.

Tickets are $50 each and include the tour and lunch. Children 12 and under are admitted free. For more information call 318-238-2246.  Briarwood is located in northern sand hills of Natchitoches Parish on LA. Hwy. 9 between Saline and Campti.

About Caroline Dormon Nature Preserve

Briarwood, home of Caroline Dormon, was willed in 1971 to the Foundation for the Preservation of the Caroline Dormon Nature Preserve, Inc. It is maintained by donations from her many friends.

Briarwood consists of 120 acres of almost-virgin forest, with magnificent trees towering 100 feet tall.  There are more than 100 species of trees and shrubs. For information on tours, call 318-238-2246.
