2013 FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS - 87th Annual Event

Schedule of Events

November 23, 2013 - January 6, 2014

Over 300,000+ Christmas lights and 100 plus riverbank set pieces are on every night at dusk through January 6, 2014.  Downtown attractions include carriages tours through the historic district.  Shops and restaurants open late.  All events take place in the Landmark Historic District along Cane River Lake and south of Natchitoches.

Christmas Musical

  ‘Changed by a Baby Boy’ is an exciting Christmas musical which offers a contemporary look at the birth of Jesus and how it changed the world. Free to all, this Southern Gospel work is suitable for all ages and offers spirit lifting songs and drama that may change the way you have looked at this incredible event.  All performances are at the Natchitoches Art Center on 2nd Street, on Friday Dec. 14th at 6pm and Saturday Dec. 15th at 1, 3, and 5pm.

  • Church Street Bridge will close at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday for vehicular traffic.  It will close to foot traffic from 4:15 p.m. until the conclusion of the fireworks show.
  • Jefferson Street from Amulet to Touline will close to vehicle traffic at 6:00 a.m.
  • Front Street will close to vehicle traffic at 6:00 a.m.
  • Washington Street from Texas Street to Lafayette Street will close to vehicle traffic at 6:00 a.m.
  • At 9:00 a.m. Amulet Street will be blocked at 2nd Street, 5th Street, and 4th Street.  At 11:00 a.m., Amulet Street between Jefferson and 2nd Street will close to allow Junior Parade to line up at Amulet Street.
  • At 11:00 a.m. the Keyser Bridge will close to vehicular traffic and all parade route barricades from University Parkway north to Texas Street will go up for the parade which begins at 1:00 p.m.
  • University Parkway will remain open to east/west traffic until 12:00 p.m., at this time it will close from Jefferson to 2nd Street.  Eastbound traffic on University Parkway will be stopped at Boyd Street and westbound traffic on Mill Street will be stopped at Airport Road.
  • ~At the conclusion of the parade (when foot traffic allows), Jefferson and 2nd Street will reopen from University to Amulet. The Keyser Street Bridge will also reopen when foot traffic allows.
  • At 5:00 p.m., barricades on Williams Avenue north of Henry Avenue to St. Maurice Lane and the intersections of East Second Street with Stephens, St. Clair, Whitfield, Sirod Street, and Adelaide Street will go in place.
  • Third Street From Texas Street southbound to Church Street will close at 6:00 a.m.
  • Church Street from Third Street westbound to Fifth Street will close at 6:00 a.m.
  • Fourth Street from Amulet Street northbound to Texas Street will close at 6:00 a.m.
  • Rue Beauport (the downtown riverbank) will be closed.
  • Demeziere Street from Second Street eastbound to Jefferson Street will close at 6:00 a.m.
  • Poete Street from Second Street eastbound to Jefferson Street will close at 6:00 a.m.
Additional Information:
  • Handicapped parking is available at the Natchitoches Parish Library (front lot) and at the Natchitoches Events Center.  Use Touline to access the library lot and 4th and 3rd Streets to access the Event Center lot.
  • Two ticket booths will open at 5:30 a.m. (Church and Williams).  All other booths will open at 6:30 a.m.
  • The opening ceremony is at 12:00 p.m.
  • The Junior Parade and the Main Parade have been combined and will begin at 1:00 p.m.
  • The fireworks show is at 6:00 p.m., followed by a performance by Grammy Award Winner- Terrence Simien and the Zydeco Experience beginning around 6:45 p.m.
  • A Family Fun Zone will be located in City Park (on Second and Amulet) and will feature a zip line, laser tag, Gyro Extreme, and more

Snow Fest Returns to Natchitoches

This great family tradition is returning to Natchitoches for 3 different weekends during November and December. Friday & Saturday, November 23 & 24 will feature the 110' long slide.  Rides are $3 for each slide.  There is a 42" height requirement on this first weekend but the Historic District Business Association will introduce a slide for all sizes during their December weekends.
